As of Friday, April 03, 2009, the legislature has 23 days remaining to pass policy measures and budgets.
The House of Representatives is in the process of proposing and passing its own versions of the budgets. Then the two chambers must reach agreement on all three spending plans, which will take effect July 1, before the Legislature can adjourn for the year.

March 12th was a key cutoff date for bills in the 2009 legislative session. Bills that were not passed out of their respective house of origin are considered “dead” for the remainder of session. The next crucial cutoff is March 27th for policy bills to be out of committee. The update below are those that have passed out of their chamber. Bills now need a scheduled hearing in the other chamber and progress through the committee progress. There is also a link to bills that are now considered inactive.

The next key date will be March 12th which is the last day for bills to be considered in their house of origin.

The Senate Government Operations and Elections Committee recently heard testimony on Senate Bill 5120 (Regarding agricultural structures). Under this measure, the permitting fee for an agricultural structure may not exceed the lower of the actual cost of administration, or $75; The bill defines specialty agricultural structures as structures that are designed and constructed to house farm equipment, hay, grain, poultry, livestock, and other horticultural products; and states that human habitation, public use, and employment where agricultural products are processed, treated, or packaged are not permitted uses of a specialty agricultural building.
