Farmland Preservation Task Force Elects Bob Hart Chairman
apoire January 18th, 2008
A Skagit County farmer with a long history of public and industry service has been elected chairman of the Washington State Farmland Preservation Task Force. Bob Hart was elected to the position by his fellow Task Force members at the group’s initial meeting last month.
With interests in vegetable and nursery stock production in Skagit County, Hart was appointed to the 18-member task force by Governor Chris Gregoire to represent agricultural producers in Northwestern Washington. He has held volunteer and leadership positions in a number of agricultural and community organizations.
A former two-term Skagit County Commissioner, Hart was in office when the Skagit County Board of Commissioners approved plans and funding to preserve the land base of the County’s agricultural heritage.
The Farmland Preservation Task Force and the Office of Farmland Preservation were created by the Washington State Legislature last year to address factors that lead to the loss of farmland and develop solutions.
